Cerebral Palsy: I am at a loss.

Hello global readers! I have returned with a new blog piece born out of frustration and educational necessity. Above my blog piece you will find my Cerebral Palsy Awareness global Petition which began in March 2021 for Cerebral Palsy Awareness month. The petition will remain open… until march 2022, or with everything that has happened, perhaps I will keep it open to sign for the foreseeable future. I am writing again after life got in the way.

Sadly, many medical professionals have never heard of Cerebral Palsy. this was my most recent experience in the waiting room. There are many different types of Cerebral Palsy. I can only speak for my own case. what else am I to do to continue to raise awareness? I was published in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I created a YouTube global awareness speech, and I also created the first global petition to gain more federal funding to be directed towards the White House for more ADULT specialists. as I write this, the views and signatures are growing on both platforms.

I have to admit that out of sheer desperation I searched the internet for a t-shirt with a logo that simply said “I make Cerebral Palsy look good.” however, out of the respect I have for patients fighting the same label of the lifetime diagnosis, I restrained myself from placing the t-shirt in my cart and checking out to go to the payment section of a website.

My point being, I am in the grey area of an able bodied and disabled adult. A woman with a disability or a disabled woman. I use the terms interchangeably. The terminology within the chronic illness community continues to evolve. I use the terms I am comfortable with for my own case. I support all who have Cerebral Palsy. I will even go as far as to say that I consider myself in the category of someone with an invisible disability. Readers within the Invisible disability community, you have my support.

I have to hold on to the belief that somewhere out there in the world there is a grassroots effort of united voices fighting for the same things we are fighting for on a daily basis. There has to be power in raising our voices to authority in an effort to promote change. Change can be envisioned per individual case. what would YOU like change to look like globally? sign my global petition and view my YouTube Speech to become an agent of change. I am an agent of change. The term global movement to the powers that be sounds like too much to ask for in the year 2021. Cerebral Palsy: I am at a loss.
